Japanese don't kiss at weddings

Well, this certainly surprised me. I only found this out today. Japanese do not kiss at a traditional Japanese wedding. Apparently, at Japanese weddings, to signify that you're bonded for life, you bow to your god. There's no kissing to show your affection.

Follow up:

Makes me think about whether a lot of weddings in Japan are actually real. When we see Westerners getting married, we expect to see a full on snog/pash/tongue-kiss to show that this is definitely what they both want. If all they had to do was bow, how do we know they really love each other? It could be an arranged marriage. Is this one of the reasons why there is such a low birth rate in Japan?

What is your opinion on this?
